The first way that you can get involved is to come down to City Hall and Occupy with us. City Hall is located at 301 W. 2nd St. We are occupying 24/7, so feel free to come any time of day or night that you can. You can view the calendar of daily events here. General Assembly (GA) is at 7pm nightly with an open forum directly after. You can come to the GA meetings to hear updates, reports, and announcements. If you have any kind of proposals or ideas then please come let your voice be heard! There are now teach-ins at 5:30pm daily at City Hall. Check the calendar link above or the Facebook event page. Every night at 9:30pm we will be marching from City Hall to 6th St. to get the word out about Occupy Austin and Occupy Wall Street. Every weekend we are doing movie nights at 1am. Bring your sleeping bags and come stay with us!
If you have something to say, teach, or discuss then please do! You can contact firstname.lastname@example.org to put something on the calendar. Teach-ins and discussions are a great way to get involved and educate each other.
Spread the word! A lot of people don’t know what Occupy Austin and Occupy Wall Street are all about. One of the best ways to get information out there is through human interaction. Occupy Austin is about democracy, economic security, corporate responsibility and financial fairness. You can see the list of goals and demands as ratified by the General Assembly here.
Print & hang flyers. There are so many bulletin boards and spaces for flyers in Austin. Coffee shops, record shops, book shops, restaurants, grocery stores. Let’s occupy this space with flyers about Occupy Austin! You can find some printable flyers on the Occupy Austin Resources page. You can also download and print this flyer which has our web address listed.
Donate! Occupy Austin is always in need of donations. All donations to Occupy Austin are greatly appreciated and it’s a wonderful way to help out. We are occupying 24/7, that means there are occupiers at City Hall for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We’re always in great need of food and water donations. You can see a comprehensive daily list of what is needed on the Occupy Austin Needs Facebook page. You can bring donations to Base Camp which is located at 5011 E. Cesar Chavez or City Hall. If you would like to make a monetary donation you can contact the Finance Committee at email@example.com.
Switch to a local credit union. National Bank Transfer day is coming up on November 5th. Local credit unions offer the same services as large banks. Credit unions have lower fees, higher interest rates and give back to the local community. The bank action website will be live on occupyaustin.org within the next week. You can like the Occupy Austin Bank Action Facebook page here. If you would like further information you can email the Bank Action Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org or come down to the Occupy Austin welcome table at City Hall.
Share on Facebook, twitter and other social media outlets. Social media is such a good way to get information out to a broad audience. Share our Facebook page, Occupy Austin events, the Occupy Austin website, photos, articles and whatever else you can find that will get people informed and involved in what’s going on.
Get involved in the forums on occupyaustin.org. You can find everything from breaking news to proposals, discussions, education, and just the general voices of Occupy Austin on the forums.
Finally, in your downtime be sure to check out the Occupy Austin Livestream. The Livestream is a great resource that allows you to see what’s going on at City Hall. You can tune in to the GA and other working group meetings and chat with fellow viewers.
