The NDAA of 2012, quietly signed into law late at night on New Years eve, includes controversial sections 1021 and 1022 that allow indefinite military detention of American citizens, without trial. The ACLU has criticized this legislation, stating, ”the breadth of the NDAA’s detention authority violates international law because it is not limited to people captured in the context of an actual armed conflict as required by the laws of war.”
This alarming over-reaching by the legislature and the president is one more step toward tyranny and the silencing of views critical of the status quo in America.
Occupy Austin stands in solidarity with a nationwide effort to overturn sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA, and joins other concerned Austin citizens on Friday February 3rd from 12PM to 7PM for a rally, vigil and march at the state capitol south grounds.
Political views don’t matter in this fight, and all are encouraged to join us for some or all of the planned activities. The NDAA is a chilling blow to freedom, and resistance to tyranny is the duty of every American. Learn more about the NDAA at WikiPedia.
