If you could post a list of the most urgently needed items, it would help a lot! There are many people who would like to help from afar who do not know how they can help.
I’ve been calling small businesses to ask for donations of basics like water, food, and toilet paper. Knowing which businesses are already donating (if any!) would also be good. They don’t need to be pestered into not wanting to help with too many calls.
Lastly, has anyone reached out to the Freecycle community? This would be a rich resource for free items!

[...] website finally has General Assembly minutes and blogs – this one on Tuesday’s meeting I found ecapsulates both the good and bad [...]
I suggest a twitter account be created exclusively for items needed at the occupation. There are so many who want to help, but can’t be there all the time. People all over town will be glad to bring you whatever you need if they get the message. Be sure to be specific, (“We need organic, vegan, gluten-free sandwiches!”)and give exact instructions for how/where/when/to whom to deliver. You will get what you need!! We love and support the revolution!
Here is a list of all items needed. Right now they are not as specific of demands as we would like, but we’re working on it!

I’d like to recommend a free wiki-style tool that might be really useful as an adaptable organizing tool for ongoing groups, needs, events within the community. It creates an expandable tree of connections and relationships. It’s main use online at the original site is to create “family trees” of powerful people and organizations (check out the Koch Brothers and Koch Industries).
For the Occupy movement it could be a very fluid way of updating activities/contacts, to keep current on needs/suppliers at the Occupy site and base camp, and even serve as a good visual tool for organizing priority issues. I really believe it has a LOT of creative potential for the Occupy movement here and nationwide. Check it out! They have instructions for making your own tree. http://www.muckety.com
“The most common way that people give up their power is to think that they don’t have any.” — Alice Walker
ps. This is interesting. Someone has already done an interesting tree related to Occupy Wall Street’s base camp of Zuccotti Park. Check it out! http://news.muckety.com/2011/10/06/muck-tracker-hizzoners-connection-to-zuccotti-park/34481.
Also, a number of commands for interacting with the map are controlled by right clicking.
eh oh. It appears that they have ended their MyMuckety free program for technical/QA reasons. They do have ongoing and one-time-fee pay options but do not have a price list on their site, just contact info. That link is here: http://news.muckety.com/muckety-licensing-options
I believe the one-time fee option for licensing their map technology would be the option we would want.
It may be more practical for one of the initial organizing group to check on this since you already know the range of activities this model may help with. Maybe that is something that could be added to our donations “wish list”. Who knows? Since they appear to be concerned with the same connections we are, maybe they would make a special rate for Occupy groups!!!
Regardless, Muckety’s current collection of professionally researched connection maps can be very useful to all of us in tracking power connections as our work continues.
So sorry for the mistake! Did not realize they considered the MyMuckety free program a pilot program
Much of what is broken and went uncontrolled can be fixed via amendments to the Constitution. This 28th Amendment petition is a populist petition of the people by the people. This is not an amendment by politicians.

It is important to be clean, well spoken. If we look like a bunch of hippies and homeless folk – no one will really care.

I heard some of your group were compiling a list of local banks/credit unions that all have certain exemplary characteristics so we have good places to move our money to. I looked at other nationally-based sites but they aren’t giving me enough specific information.
I suggest putting a locally-based move your money tool here on your resources page. We may be in the 99% but we also need to be financially responsible with what funds we have.
Does anyone know a local lawyer who will help if we get arrested during a peaceful protest? I saw a list for other cities circulating on Facebook but it was very limited.
RE: attorneys. If you do not already have some lined up, you might want to contact the Texas Civil Rights Project here in town for guidelines and recommendations. They do handle cases as well. http://www.texascivilrightsproject.org Also on Facebook They would be excellent to consider as speakers too. Also, if you have not made contact with 5604 Manor Road I would highly recommend that as well, they are home to Third Coast Activists Resource Center, Workers Defense Project and Third Coast Workers for Cooperation (ooperative development). http://www.5604Manor.org. They sponsor speakers, films and gatherings related to workers’ rights and Both of these organizations can provide valuable information on workers’ rights, social justice as well as outreach to organizations and communties on the East Side.
Sorry about the typos. A little tired.
Ditto to the alternative banks request. If anyone knows about some good independent local banks, please post them!

The Bank Action Committee will be posting our web page as part of the Occupy Austin.org web. We hope to be operational by this weekend. There will be specific information about how to move your money, why you should Fire Your Big Bank, and contact info for local Credit Unions. In the meantime, there are handouts at the Welcome Table at City Hall, or email us at bankaction@occupyaustin.org and we will send you info on how to change your bank.
Also, plan on coming to City Hall on 11/5 (National Move Your Money Day) for a major protest action
Was just at City Hall. Folks are very cold and asking for blankets, heaters (they are allowed to use them after City Hall closes) and clothing to keep them warm. Of course hot beverages are always welcome. I believe there is electrical outlets for space heaters as well.
It is going to get cold tonight and throughout this weekend.
Keep it going, pass it on… buy local!
Until the last tree have been cutting down
only after the last river have been contaminated
After the last fish have been caught
Is when you will discover that the money is not edible!!
Quote from the germen!
if you can not government yourself, how come you want somebody else to do it!!!, or if you can govern yourself what do you need someone else to do it!!!!
read this on a web page enjoy it!
I really appreciate everyone working for my benifit. Thank you.
I’m still a newbie, lost after 4 weeks of effort. Hope to help joiners by explaining what would help me…
Could the structure and the language (sign and verbal) of the GA be placed at front of Web page under GA Help or Guide or? Or is this a ‘proposal subject’?
I tripped into OccupyLosAngeles’ GA guide (on top layer) which clued me into looking for it in OA. I found structure in ‘resources’ and language in ‘blog’. Tonight I hope to glean more … yeaaaa! Thanks again. I am the 99%… Peaceful but persistent.
